Overlanding or 4x4 Touring is self-reliant vehicle travel to remote detinations. Historically, overlanding is an Australian term that was used to describe the droving of livestock over long distances to open up new country or to deliver livestock to market. The Canning Stock Route was built in the early 1900s for this purpose and these days is a world renowned route for travellers. Overlanding is a rapidly growing activity and Australia is an overlanding mecca. Travellers are heading out for local weekenders or extended trips throughout Africa, North and South America, Mongolia and across the world.
